iPhone users can celebrate as they now have the option to switch to WhatsApp as their primary default messaging and calling platform, as reported by WBI.
This means anyone trying to dial a phone number through the browser can now make the call through WhatsApp if they choose to allow so. The similar feature applies for sending out texts from any location, such as Maps, Contacts, and more. The iPhone maker says the feature is optional, so there’s no force. However, this has really opened up an array of options, so your phone setup is more customized to accommodate this service.

If you’d like to avail it, there are a few simple steps to follow to make the app a default option on iPhones. Firstly, make sure you are running iOS 18.2, and if not, update your app. After that, open up your Settings tab and then click on the Apps tab.
Once that’s done, you go into the Default Apps, and that’s where you’ll see a host of compatible platforms. Simply choose WhatsApp on the Messaging and Calling menus. This is it! Next time you decide to shoot a text or make a call from a different component of your iPhone, it gets sent to your app’s setup.
Remember, the feature is only listed for beta right now. This seems to be up for grabs on the new version of iOS, but it’s not as shared by the company. It’s a test flight beta for WhatsApp, but we do see it getting launched soon for all to use.
If you’re keen on being some of the first to try it out, you can download and use it to trial the newest features before anyone else. However, this does mean that the company hasn’t sorted out the issues that come with bugs, so it’s really not for everyone out there.
We can see this rollout being the beginning of a new change, and we can also hope to see more customization for apps owned by third parties after being added. Who knows, you might see an option to make Telegram soon, or heading to Maps after entering Google Maps.
For that to work out, we’ll just need to wait and watch, so stay tuned.
