Google shared yesterday that Google Wallet is now enabled for children having Android phones. This means they can now make payments for in-app purchases through a single tap.
The countries outlined so far where the feature is enabled include the US, the UK, Spain, Poland, and Australia. Therefore, all parents of these young users can give kids access to making digital payments through a smartphone under their supervision.
Kids will also get the chance to use the Google Wallet to attain supported passes including the likes of library cards, gift cards, and tickets. As per the tech giant, payment cards are only included after parental consent.
Parents will get emails when their child engages in any kind of financial transaction. Moreover, parents can utilize Family Link which is a feature of parental control that tracks the kid’s recent purchases. It can similarly get rid of any payment cards when necessary and switch off access given to passes.
We must mention that it’s worth noting how kids cannot use the Google Wallet feature to pay for their own personal online purchases which was a serious concern for many people.
To begin, children and parents must navigate to the Wallet on the smartphone belonging to the child. Here is where they click on Add Wallet which is found on the screen’s bottom. They can then select an option for a Payment Card and press New Debit or Credit Card.
After this, the platform can prompt parents to verify that they’re a parent by logging into any Google Account. They will then be able to include credit or debit cards. Once that’s done, the child has the freedom to pay for any purchases done in-store.
The launch of this feature is not too surprising. As shared by Android maker Google last month, it will arrive during the spring time and it seems like they’re staying true to that promise. Google didn’t share whether or not it has any plans in the pipeline to expand the offering to different countries.
With the change seen today, we can confirm that Google is getting close to the greatness that Apple has to offer. The latter already gives kids the chance to utilize Apple Pay for any sort of purchases done in-store through the company’s Apple Cash Family.
