Google Previews New Safety Features for Play Store and Android Apps

Google just previewed its new safety features on Google Play and Android apps for 2025.

The company’s Play Protect and live threat detection is known for warning users about any kind of stalkerware by seeing the activity patterns for the apps. Now, this would be expanded to targeted malicious apps that impersonate financial platforms.

The Android maker shared how it searches for malicious apps that might be lying around in dormant mode in the Play Store. The alerts pop up in the form of an unsafe app found and were seen getting launched for Pixel 6 and newer devices. The warnings were great, but still had a lot of room for improvement, and that’s what we can expect now.

The company says it is getting even easier for malicious actors to disguise or trick people into having harmful installations. This is why the tech giant’s focus now is sending out alerts whereby users are notified about harmful installations ahead of time to stay guarded.

As per Google, the latest analysis found more than 50 times more malware from side-loaded sources on the internet. A lot of these had to do with browsers and messaging platforms found on Google Play. Users may even expect more Google Play badges, such as tags of verified for a VPN in more app domains.

Meanwhile, the Play Integrity API is going to see greater protection for users in 2025, where they can highlight abusive devices in a manner that preserves the privacy of so many people. Apps using the Play Integrity alerts for detecting suspicious behavior are witnessing an 80% fall in unauthorized usage when compared to different platforms.

Developers will get greater pre-review checks through the Android Studio in 2025 to assist in preventing common policy issues. Remember, Google also wishes to better communication with developers through another means called Play Console. They also wish to make the Google Play Developer Help Community accessible to other regions and available in different languages like Korean, Indonesian, and Japanese. The website witnessed close to 2.7M visits in 2024.

Whatever the case, it’s great that Google is taking users’ privacy and security seriously. These measures are just what users need to stay guarded and vigilant on staying safe.
