Facebook’s Latest ‘Friends’ Tab Will Only Show Posts from Friends Like The Good Old Days

Meta just spent the last couple of years transforming the Facebook app’s main feed into a massive discovery engine. This mostly serves recommended content from various pages, accounts, and groups that people aren’t even following.

The tech giant shared how such changes are necessary when you’re competing with archrivals in the industry like TikTok. But it can get frustrating on the Facebook users’ part who could end up missing out on posts from actual people that they’re following or they know.

The company says it’s working hard to revamp the new Friends section for the app so that it only displays updates from your actual or OG friends. The company shared how such updates are the first of many that will bring the main features to light that Facebook was once famous for, years ago. We’re talking nearly 21 years back.

Before, Friends was only limited to friend requests, but it’s now going to be home to a homefeed that’s mostly made of content linked to your close pals. So any feed updates and Story posts, including Reels, requests from friends, and birthdays, will show up. Then people you might know will pop up as a part of the suggestions.

The tech giant says such a change is an experiment for now, but it’s a huge part of a bigger push to make the app get more social. This is the first time that the organization has shared dedicated feeds for ‘only friends’ material. Remember, Zuckerberg showed dedicated friends feed in the year 2022 amid the organization’s push to add more recommendations to the user’s home feed. This feed will surface posts from pals in reverse order, but it’s not as prevalent right now as it should be.

For now, it’s not exactly clear what the company has in store for more OG features on the app, which could be reminiscent of the good old Facebook days. Oh, how we miss those nostalgic feelings. Still, it’s a huge priority for Mark Zuckerberg right now.

We can see this change being a major hit with users. It’s going to be great to see those joyful memories of Facebook brought back to life. So if you do miss the old Facebook days, then this is something you might wish to look forward to very soon, as confirmed by Mark Zuckerberg during his latest podcast appearance.
