There has been a rise in demand in AI jobs as well as decrease in demand for some other jobs. The study analyzed more than 3 million freelancing jobs posted on different platforms before and after the release of ChatGPT. It was found that demand for jobs like copywriting, programming and translation have decreased a lot after ChatGPT got released but there was a rise in demand for other jobs.
The analysis showed that ChatGPT took over jobs which can be easily taken over and there was a 24% decline in their demands. ChatGPT and AI models easily handled writings about “about us” pages and real estate on websites and the number of jobs posted in these categories decreased 50% after the release of ChatGPT. The job demands which were increased after the release of ChatGPT were creative writing, video production, machine learning and chatbot development.
The jobs which were most impacted by AI were short term jobs required for 1-3 weeks and jobs which only required limited experience. It is obvious that demand in jobs which can easily be done by AI declined because more complex jobs are the ones which need human involvement. Freelance sector is the one being the most affected by AI and as AI is developing more rapidly, it can have more severe effects on the job market. The study also talks about how this change can affect both the employer and the employees. AI technologies need to be implemented wisely to get the best results and policymakers should also make some laws and regulations regarding the use of AI in enterprises. Education and training sectors are also going to be most impacted by it and only the ones adapting to the change will get positively affected.
