The CTO for tech giant Meta has related the advanced AI push to the modern equivalent of the space race. Speaking during a recent podcast, Andrew Bosworth did not hold back and explained how a serious risk linked with the world of tech was getting outpaced by market leaders of the industry.
This is why he strongly felt the US needed to engage more in this race as a country. Bosworth mentioned how the country entails some of the best engineers and they’re no less than those seen globally.
He similarly warned against stepping back to ward off risks linked to AI, adding how they needed to pour more fuel on this situation, instead of worrying about its risks. The biggest risk right now is possibly getting outpaced by competition in the industry, and nothing is worse than that.
Bosworth went as far as to speak about ways to reduce the progress rates of competition. Remember, a huge issue with AI is getting access to data that might do more harm on a big scale. But at the same time, the risk that today’s AI brings is no more than that seen with a standard search engine.
Today, there’s a lot of knowledge that exists, and most time, there are so many threats that most of us forget to see the bigger picture, which is the potential of AI, he continued. The main threat isn’t the information at large. It’s the chance to attain hazardous products.
In a world of today where cybersecurity concerns run large, AI might end up serving as the most capable tool for defense. It can detect attacks more powerfully than actually producing them. So as a nation, the US needs to focus more on AI and label it as a top agenda.
He did praise the CHIPS Act as a great start, but felt more was required to ensure domestic manufacturing stayed at the forefront of the picture to limit the tension that we feel coming from the South China Sea. So, as per the passionate Meta executive, you cannot escape the race of AI and the only way out is to go through it.
