X Is Still A Force To Reckon With, As 2024 Saw 128% Rise in Mobile Revenue And It’s Not Slowing Down Anytime Soon

While January is far behind us, we thought it would be interesting to see where Elon Musk’s X app stands as we speak.

Thanks to App Intelligence, we’ve got plenty of reasons to claim that the platform is doing great. On average, mobile revenue grew 128% in 2024 in terms of yearly figures. As far as monthly revenue for January is concerned, it continued to reach new heights, providing the competition is not slowing down anytime soon.

The future of Twitter is not very clear after the takeover by Musk in 2022. Many people did get skeptical about the fact that it’s offering a subscription service. Others did not feel it would produce enough revenue after the disaster seen in 2022 where it only made $6.8M. If you want to be more specific, that’s equal to just a day and a half of revenue from ChatGPT.

So many things changed in 2023, and this resulted in a major rise in revenue for the service. It pushed it up to a bigger league with a massive 671% rise to reach $54 million. Remember, it’s all net revenue which means the organization can keep what’s left after Google and Apple receive 30% shares of the in-app purchase.

Fast forward to last year, things were bigger and better. We witnessed the yearly revenue for X cross into the nine-digit figure. As per estimates, X earned more than $123M of net revenue through the App Store and Google Play last year. That’s a 128% jump from 2023.

So the question is how and why the figures grew so much in 2024, other than the fact that there was a lot of politics to deal with.

Well, there were many new subscription tiers. The initial success of this $8 plan saw X adding another more basic tier and a new premium plus tier. It similarly increased the premium tier to $11 per month.

Then we saw Musk’s xAI roll out Grok that would go head to head with ChatGPT. Making it available on the X app made things so much simpler for users as it was right there when they needed it. Those in search of a better alternative for ChatGPT made the switch. But some success does go towards X and its many promotional offerings. This includes discounts for yearly subscriptions on events like Black Friday and during the year’s end.

So more features added aren’t a major surprise as we are in an era where AI reigns supreme. Now moving on to this year, figures show that the app added $14.6 million in terms of net revenue. This is thanks to the App Store and Google Play Store. There was a fall of 18$ from last year’s December but that’s expected. Remember, we saw X put out plenty of promotional campaigns towards the year’s end.

Now the issue is that rival apps such as Threads and Bluesky are always trying to hijack the audience on X. This could mean more trouble in the next few months. Now we cannot predict the future but it’s looking bright for X.
