The makers of ChatGPT are forecasting a huge shift in the next couple of years. This has to do with the company getting a majority of its data capacity through Stargate.
For those who might not be aware, Stargate is a project that is expected to be heavily funded by a leading member of the company’s financial backers which is SoftBank. This symbolizes a huge shift away from software giant Microsoft who happens to be the firm’s biggest shareholder and also who fulfills most of its power needs.
While the shift is a major one, it won’t happen overnight. This is why OpenAI is making plans to raise spending on data centers under Microsoft in the next couple of years. During this time, the organization’s general costs would grow in exponential figures. Also, during this period, OpenAI’s projects would burn up to $20B in cash in 2027.
Clearly, the figure is far more than what it spent last year. Meanwhile, by 2030, the company did predict more about how its costs related to running AI models would outpace what this startup firm spends on AI model training.
