LinkedIn Surpasses X, Instagram, and Facebook, Securing the Highest Revenue Among Social Media Platforms Globally

When you think about the social media landscape, most of Meta’s apps and TikTok come to mind. However, you’ll be amazed at how the underdog LinkedIn (owned by Microsoft) is actually the highest revenue-making app in social media today.

Yes, the professional networking platform is beating out TikTok, X, Instagram, Facebook, and even Snapchat to hail the top position. So right before you call it anything other than social media, you might want to think again.

The app is definitely doing something right and it’s taking its monetization potential to a new high. We’ve seen it grow from a place of simply uploading resumes to transforming into a vibrant setting featuring algorithmic feeds and many active users who want to share what’s happening around the globe. The only difference is that things are much more professional on the networking app.

Looking at the recent performances proves that people aren’t calling it secondary by any means. Many apps such as this one are mutually exclusive and many active users are usually more active here than anywhere else. This has assisted the app in earning revenue that’s 600% greater since the year 2020. Today, its revenue figures stand a little more than half a billion and that’s what it takes home after paying Google and Apple their shares.

As per estimates from AppFigures, the platform closed 2024 with a staggering net revenue of $506 million which is $122M up from the year before. The 32% rise is due to higher demand for the app’s Premium tier and it’s not very surprising as many other apps are benefiting from rolling out similar schemes.

The only difference here is that LinkedIn knows how to monetize well and better than other apps, but we have to exclude social media giant TikTok here. While the app was able to defeat all other competitors such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat in America and around the globe, it still came second to TikTok’s massive profits. Still, we have to give LinkedIn props for a fabulous year.

Ever since it came under the wings of software giant Microsoft, it’s transformed into this powerhouse of success and 2025 won’t be slowing it down anything soon. If you’re a part of the professional world, then you really need to leverage the app’s potential to attain advantages.
