Google is on a mission to prove how it takes users’ security on Chrome seriously. The company just rolled out its enhanced protection mode for Chrome users in honor of Safer Internet Day.
This means that billions of users can benefit from safe browsing experiences that keep them guarded from scams, malware, phishing, and other kinds of online threats. These are commonly encountered when using Chrome, Search, and Android. The same goes for Gmail and ads on Google, not to mention the rise in third-party browsers. So, it’s a mega protection scheme that will keep 5 billion devices secure.
As a default setting, users on Chrome are using the safe browsing standard protection. You can decide to opt into the feature to use Enhance Protection that’s designed for AI and machine learning systems.
Users will be safe as the latest system can identify lingering threats such as phishing, scams, and social engineering. Google first unveiled the feature in 2020 as a means to keep users protected at all costs from online threats. However, other benefits include highlighting URLs that look similar to trusted locations. It also entails suspicious page comparisons to see if the device might be at risk. Lastly, it will run nearly 300,000 deep scans of malicious files against top scanners every month. This helps to search for new kinds of malware that weren’t witnessed in the past.
Switching this kind of enhanced protection does not only better security for the user but all those online. After page detection, it saves this in the memory back and makes sure other users remain guarded against such threats in the future if and when they visit the page.
As a whole, the latest Enhanced Protection users are kept two times safe from phishing attempts and different scans. This is in comparison to the safest browsing standard protection mode out there today. If you’d like to enable this, simply head on over to the Chrome settings, press on privacy and security, and then activate the enhanced protection for a safe browsing experience.
We can see that Google is really honoring Safer Internet Day by touting the latest two times better protection for scams and phishing attempts. What more can a user ask for, right?
