Elon Musk Acknowledges Community Notes Is Plagued With Issues At the Moment

Tech billionaire Elon Musk says Community Notes is currently facing issues on X.

The popular tool is used as a replacement for fact-checkers and has been on the app before Musk acquired Twitter and rebranded it as X.

Musk shared through a post on X that his team was working round the clock to fix the issue. The justification provided by him right now had to do with it being controlled by governments and legacy media.

Musk shared how the issue seems to be more related to how contributors for X’s community notes were treating misinformation related to President Zelensky from Ukraine and the ongoing war with Russia.

The tech billionaire didn’t shy away from quoting a post that displayed how Zelensky had a whopping 57% approval rating but that was not credible information. Such data getting challenged on X is not doing well with the image that Trump is portraying of Zelensky as a dictator ruling the Ukraine nation.

It’s also not a good look for Elon Musk who wishes to use the app as the unofficial arm of his role in the current Trump administration. Musk reiterates that any poll controlled by Zelensky about his personal approval cannot be credible. The SpaceX owner also didn’t finish his sentence about how the matter would be very different if the ruler actually loved his people and would take the right measures that he didn’t specify.

Fixing Community Notes will probably take a while and we need to see when that happens but for now, seeing Musk cite posts that have zero credibility themselves and only feature a tiny text with a small caption does not explain much. Seeing him ragging on about it is proof that he’s not going to change.

Many feel he likes to plague the algorithm with his own thoughts and beliefs that cannot be challenged. He’s gotten rid of all features designed to verify credibility. So now that he feels that crowdsourced fact-checks cannot be trusted says a lot.

Remember, Community Notes is not something that only X takes pride in or makes use of. We saw tech giant Meta open up a new waitlist to make use of the feature on different platforms. But how long Community Notes will exist in the current form is definitely an open question.
