Apple Implements Restrictions for App Store Purchase Migration Between Accounts

iPhone maker Apple made a lot of its App Store clients happy by finally giving them what they’ve desired for years. And that includes the ability to move purchases from one Apple account to the next. However, the only issue is that it comes with plenty of requirements.

Apple recently shared a new list of why purchase migration was not available to help make users understand what was going on. For starters, no child accounts created through Family sharing would be allowed. Secondly, neither account could be already involved in migrated purchases. And if you choose to undo the feature, then you cannot migrate any purchases for another year.

You also cannot migrate purchases if both primary and secondary Apple Accounts feature data from music libraries linked to any of them. Furthermore, you cannot transfer purchases if you’ve set up an Apple One Subscription to give iCloud storage to different accounts. If any primary account was recently deleted or inactive, it also cannot be used and the same is the case for locked and disabled accounts. Last but not least, neither Apple Account could be getting special access to platforms or their content.

This is why Apple is adding new requirements before users can migrate purchases so it’s done without any more hassle or fears of rejection. The latest clause includes saying no to migrating purchases if the secondary Apple account is linked to TestFlight for reasons like testing beta versions of developer apps. If that’s the case with you, just open your TestFlight and click on Stop Testing for every app to delete it from your accounts.

The Cupertino firm was seen making updates to its support document for purchase migration between Apple accounts. They hope to clarify this 15-day purchase rule that’s only applied to two different markets.

If you’re located in the China or South Korean region, you might need to wait for two weeks for all the purchases done through the Apple Account balance to finish the process. The document previously deleted mentions of South Korea and China so that’s definitely some progress made for users in the region.

Last but not least, Apple chose such clarifications to the Family Sharing parts of the document. Purchases can still be migrated if previous designations of secondary accounts were done as separate Apple Accounts for sharing purchases for the primary account inside Family Sharing.
