Tech giant Meta is bowing down to the wishes of American President Donald Trump. The company shared that it was ready to settle the matter with a $25 million payment that stemmed from his account suspension.
Trump’s account on Facebook was suspended after a series of riots in the US Capitol in January of 2021. As per the WSJ, little activity arose in this case but things changed in a second after the Facebook owner paid a visit to the President’s residence in Mar-a-Lago after his election.
Donald Trump is believed to have brought the matter to Zuckerberg’s attention during a dinner in November. This is where he detailed more on what needed to be done before Zuckerberg’s arrival. The funds received will go towards the President’s library.
The news about the lawsuit’s settlement is the latest move made by the company to make Trump happy. There was one point in time when Trump promised to throw the Meta CEO in jail for making plans against him.
After the election, Zuckerberg chose to bow down to Trump’s wishes and make some major changes that raised questions. This includes getting rid of the company’s fact checker system and instead employing Community Notes like X. Other striking measures included rolling back prohibiting slurs for immigrants and those related to the LGBTQ community.
He similarly wished to put an end to corporate diversity campaigns and also took on Trump supporter Dana White to its board of directors. Zuckerberg was seated front row at the president’s inauguration which again did not surprise many as other top tech CEOs also were seen.
The reports about Meta’s major payout as a settlement arose after the firm rolled out the newest earnings results. The matter was discussed during a call with top analysts where Zuckerberg explained how 2025 would be a big year for the company and redefining its links with the government.
While Trump’s name was never personally mentioned, Zuckerberg did share how the whole American Administration was happy with America’s leading tech giants who continue to put the needs of the people first while giving rise to innovation. He was happy to see Trump take a stand for tech giants with hopes of future intervention against any unfair policies or practices such as that seen in the EU.
