Google Tests New ‘Ask For Me’ AI Feature For Calling Local Businesses For Information

Google is trying to make users' lives easier with AI and the latest 'Ask Me' feature just might be what many people are looking for.

The feature is still in its testing phase but if things do go as planned, users can place calls to different businesses with AI. So on their behalf, the AI can get all the details, pricing, and other data necessary. It’s up for grabs on desktops and also on smartphones for those who signed up for Search Labs.

The goal is to give more people access to data without actually having to pick up the device and talk to another human being. For instance, you might be keen on knowing which services are on offer at your local hair salon or which flights are available on a certain date for a certain location.

Once the user prompts the feature with more details about their service, you will get more data about the time frame and the system’s AI will make the call on their behalf. They even send a brief summary report of the prices as well as the availability.

The news is great in terms of timing as it arrives at a time when Google is searching for more ways to assist people save time when they contact a firm through AI. In the previous year, the organization rolled out another feature dubbed Talk to a Live Rep. It similarly allowed the user to place calls to the business on their behalf. It would wait on hold and then give the call when the representative is ready to speak.

The feature is designed to get rid of users waiting for a long time, in some instances hours, to get the service or information they need. It’s also painstaking to hold on and listen to music when you’d like to reconnect with the agent at the front desk.
