According to new analytics by Appfigures, overall spending on AI apps has touched $1.42 billion in 2024 which is mostly led by ChatGPT. As compared to 2023, there was a 274% increase in AI spendings and ChatGPT was the most dominant in spendings. Both Google and Apple retained 30% of revenue from AI apps due to in-app purchases and mobile apps have become $2 billion of the overall market.
According to estimates, ChatGPT has been downloaded 353 million times, with half of ChatGPT users being under 25. It can be because young people are more into new technology and love experimenting with it. Pew Research Center also highlights that ChatGPT has been used by over a quarter of teens in the US to do their schoolwork. The second largest group of people who have been using ChatGPT are people between 50-64 of ages, and make 20.2% of the total ChatGPT users.
Appfigures also found that there is a huge difference between men and women users of ChatGPT. 84.5% of the users of ChatGPT are men while women users are way less.
A Pew report in 2022 indicated that women have prominent roles in AI industries but they are also the ones more likely to lose their jobs to automation than men. It was also found in an Axios poll that only 26% of men are opposed to their children using AI while 53% surveyed women do not allow their children to use AI at all. Women are also more hesitant to use AI technologies because they know the impact AI can cause especially to women like deep fake images and sexually explicit content. There is also another AI chatbot called DeepSeek in the market which is making ChatGPT lose its crown as the AI app with the most spendings.
