OpenAI CEO Says We’re Getting Closer To The Launch of AGI Superintelligence But Don’t Expect Too Much Brilliance

It was only a few months back that we heard OpenAI CEO Sam Altman speak about Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) saving the world. Now, it seems like his expectations have fallen short as he was seen backtracking on his own claims.

Altman shared in 2022 that AGI could elevate humanity as it gave rise to a giant list of possibilities. He also explained how any kind of superintelligence like this one could produce prosperity for everyone.

Two months back, major claims were made about its usefulness to combat climate change and discover more in the realm of physics. Now, it seems like the expectations of brilliance are being lowered thanks to the CEO himself.

Speaking during the recent Dealbook Summit by the NYT, he shared how the world could experience AGI much sooner than what was planned. He also seemed to downplay the term superintelligence linked to AGI.

From what we feel, it’s a gimmick to generate hype and then bring it down slowly when the release date comes near. As per OpenAI, AGI is the gluing of large families of supermodels together as one.

This kind of economic disruption would take longer than others think because there is not a lot of inertia. So as per Altman, the first few years might not see major changes but then a wave of changes could soon spring into action.

As far as future plans for 2025 are concerned, we might witness amazingly powerful tech. Remember, OpenAI is the firm that started the major boom in 2022 when it rolled out ChatGPT. It does get funding from Microsoft which stands at a valuation of $157B.

Right now, competition is getting serious and as per Musk, the legal wars are still on. We’re seeing OpenAI get sued by xAI for putting its own interests before the goodness of the public. This is although Altman had so much praise for Musk and publicly announced it at his last appearance. All seems to be fair in the world of business, right?

Altman did express sadness over the fallout of his relationship with Musk and agreed that he didn’t hold the same thoughts as him. He blatantly rejected the idea that the tech billionaire would hurt his company via political power after getting close to Donald Trump.
