Meta has gone public with the success of its Threads app. The competition with Elon Musk’s X and Bluesky is certainly heating up after the launch of several key features.
This includes a revamped way to search through the app. The company says users can now look for certain posts that allow them to filter searches with dates and profiles. And we agree it might not be as detailed as X but it’s certainly very advanced.
On X, users get to narrow down questions by using specific key terms, phrases, and language. They can even remove words and hashtags if they want. Whatever the case might be, this new approach by Threads enables users to search for specific things. It just evens up the playing field with apps like Bluesky. The latter also gives filter searchers to users as an option with dates and advanced question options.
Meanwhile, the Bluesky platform does not put out all filtering options inside user interfaces right now. Before we saw the previous update, Threads was so basic. You could look for a certain keyword but couldn’t filter those results other than through two options. It was ‘Top’ for content having the greatest engagement or ‘Recent’ to determine which ones were new.
The latest search feature is going to be up for grabs to users around the globe. It’s coming soon in the next few weeks as noted by Threads’ latest blog post.
It’s interesting to see how Meta is really picking up the pace in terms of rolling out new updates to beat the growing competition from archrivals in the industry. We’ve seen Bluesky dominate with a whopping 9M new users in September 2024 which still soars as we speak thanks to the Elections in America. Many felt it was time to leave X after Musk’s radical policy changes on the platform.
The tech billionaire is keen to alter the way in which the app’s blocking feature works, not to mention how it utilizes the data of users for training purposes. On the other hand, Bluesky is boasting a productive stats period with more than 24M new users.
To counter the threat of Bluesky, it looks like Meta is throwing out its punches in the shape of new offerings. Now, users can select default feeds, select layouts that make it easier to navigate, and also introduce a new algorithm. We also saw it speak about rolling out its own version of recommendation lists from the user end dubbed Starter Packs.
These examples are proof that competition is healthy as it can bring out the best in any organization. What do you think?
