Meta Confirms Plans to Use Nuclear Power To Fuel American Data Centers

Meta says it’s put the final touches on plans to fuel data centers across America with nuclear power. A blog post revealed how the tech giant was currently in the process of proposal acceptance from developers specializing in this field of nuclear energy.

The goal right now for Meta is to include anywhere between 1 to 4GW of nuclear power starting in 2030. Its current list of proposals delineates how Facebook’s parent firm is in search of partners equipped with small modular reactors or those having bigger nuclear reactors.

It’s also written how the company is not exactly sure about where the location of these nuclear sites would be, calling the decision geographically agnostic. This is a complete U-turn for Meta who previously shared big plans to design its own nuclear-powered data centers. This was called off after discovering rare bee species close to the site.

Innovations bring some very impactful tech advancements throughout various sectors and also provide support for economic growth. Nuclear energy can assist the company and fuel the support and growth it needs. Meta released a statement on this front adding how crucial it was to make advancements in different sectors using tech advancements.
Nuclear energy can help give the organization baseload power and also provide support for the growth of electrical grids powering other data centers that it already operates.

If you ask the experts, the decision is not surprising. The company is not the only tech giant looking to add nuclear power to assist AI ambition. We’ve already seen Android maker Google roll out a deal to create several nuclear reactors across America. They want to add 500 MW of nuclear energy coming from small module reactors.

On the other hand, software giant Microsoft is also looking to revive its much anticipated Three Mile Island nuclear plant located in Pennsylvania that would power AI developments on this front.
