Israel’s use of sophisticated AI technology is not something new, a report shared by The Washington Post revealed.
The alarming findings spoke about how the currently deployed AI factory took a whopping 10 years to fine-tune so it can support the growing military attacks on the Gaza region, the report highlighted.
Several sources familiar with the incident spoke about how the advancing tech used by Israel can precisely and effectively target exact locations inside Gaza. Other insiders also spoke about how this technology has led to the growth in civilian casualties by a significant amount. It was to such an extent that even former military personnel shared their concerns about the loss of innocent lives.
For now, the report shared more on how AI systems could process intelligence at a fast pace and enable the military to target more than 12,000 locations in just a short span of weeks.
So many soldiers were outlined as working inside that target factory that put speed as a top priority so that less time was needed to evaluate the target. It would only entail a few minutes.
By the year 2020, the report highlights how it was better known as Unit 8200 which would function under the commands of Yossi Sariel. In that timeframe, it was clear to many how AI could be used to produce target databases featuring information about certain locations, names of suspects, and even a host of movements.
Sariel soon became the leader for Unit 8200 after coming back to Israel from the US where he studied more about AI and related technology. However, many questioned why he had such a strong and blind devotion to matters like AI.
To better resolve the matter, a centralized pool was created for matters about military intelligence. Still, the commander pushed forward for its use, and that gave rise to the phenomenon of AI factories.
In reply to that, the military was very invested in cloud tech that could show support to operations planned against groups like Hezbollah. Soldiers would attain direct access to intelligence information via the app called Hunter. It would also create target banks featuring coordinates and apartment numbers linked to Hamas and Hezbollah.
Other sources shared more light on the matter including how more data must be verified by different independent sources and continuously updated. They took billions of signals from sensors, fighter planes, and drones that could be cross-referenced using phone numbers and material taken from social media.
Another interview shared more on this front including how officers present in Tel Aviv shed light on Israel creating different AI tools to identify targets more accurately. Another military official from Israel called the change one where humans were easily replaced by machines.
So we can confirm that due to these AI systems, more than 45k people including innocent children and women were targeted in Gaza by Israel and killed in the process. The area is so negatively impacted that it wouldn’t be wrong to call it a place of famine where survival is non-existent. This has to do with the massive blockade by Israel Defense Force.
Despite the ICC issuing arrest warrants for Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu and his ex-defense Minister for conducting crimes against humanity, nothing much has changed. The situation has gone from bad to worse, with the brutal one-sided war escalating into what some leading human rights groups call Genocide.
