Instagram is finally rolling out a screenshot-blocking feature for ‘view once’ content in DMs. The news was first unveiled in August and the app is staying true to its promise.
The feature will work for any direct messages exchanged through Vanish Mode and View Once content that’s active in the users’ settings. As seen in one other example shared, the platform included the new feature in its app alerts so users are mindful of the prevention in place.
This is bound to give many users extra peace of mind when content is shared and also so that users are not violating trust through the app. The Vanish Mode was first rolled out in 2020 and works like SnapChat’s messages. Users can allow the message to destroy on its own when sharing the view once material. You cannot store the chat or content once recipients leave the chat too.

If the user does not wish to include replays inside chats, they can add the View Once to DMs. As it is, the app already has a feature that puts an alert to the creator when a recipient takes screenshots in the mode. It’s like an added layer of transparency. If you disallow it as a whole, it’s great for those that are younger.
What’s obvious is how people can take more clicks from other devices and share it in that manner. Still, it’s another layer of in-app security and assurance for sharing sensitive or private material.
Now that’s not the only change coming to the Instagram app today. For those running short of time or those wanting a scheduler to roll out memes to audiences, we’ve got great news for you. The app just announced a new option that uses select dates and times for sending texts.
To enable, simply press the ‘send’ button and select your date and time of choice for when you wish to send. As mentioned by the app’s support page, messages with only text are scheduled. So all the rest featuring videos, pictures, and GIFs must be done in real-time.
When you press on chats featuring scheduled messages, the app displays notices that portray the figure they’ve scheduled.
When you select the button and long-press the text, it also provides the option for deleting and sending it off immediately. For now, users can select a message as far out as a month or 29 days to be exact.
Meta is clearly doing its level best to make DMs more creative and interactive. This includes providing edits, drawings on images, and even sharing live locations with contacts. We must admit that the last one is very much like Snapchat but hey, isn’t Meta known for getting inspired by other leading arch-rivals in the industry like TikTok, Snapchat, and more?
