Instagram Gives Creators An Innovative Way To Test New Content With ‘Trial Reels’

Social media giant Instagram is making creators happy with another exciting rollout called Trial Reels.

The feature is designed to provide creators with a great way to experiment with new material by publishing content that doesn’t appear to followers at first. The rollout was first teased in May and now, it’s finally launching to the masses, one step at a time.

Creators can best gauge if the latest ideas work or not and also determine which performs best without having to be worried about the reaction of followers. All of these trial reels are going to be sent out to non-followers and if things go as planned, creators can then opt to change the settings so that followers see it too.

It’s quite a happening feature and one that’s unique in design and concept. This just might be the edge that Instagram was looking for against the TikTok app which is not offering any such means to experiment with content styles beforehand.

The head of Instagram’s product management division revealed during her latest interview that the entire idea stems from the fact that creators get to play with different formats, genres, and topics without having to feel pressure from anywhere about performance.

Some creators leave feedback on the app about reluctance when it comes to experimentation. This is because their follower base is built on years of hard work and effort. They want to make sure the success is guaranteed at all times which is why they avoid taking risks.

Creators are allowed to share reels with the new feature by toggling the Trial option post-reel creation. It’s then published to non-followers so it won’t pop up on the creator’s profile or main tab. But it must be remembered that followers might still see it if someone on their list shares it with them.

After 24 hours, creators get to determine how much engagement including views, comments, and likes appeared on the content. They can either post it or archive it for later sharing.

The latest feature is rolling out around the globe to all users having professional accounts on the app. You can certainly get your hands on it in the next few weeks. And if you ask us, it’s very useful in terms of making sure only polished content goes up. It also minimizes risks related to followers' loss and losing out on mega-brand deals.
