Google Upgrades Gemini Chatbot with Unlocked Communication Capabilities

Google is working hard to transform its Gemini chatbot into more than just your average AI companion. We’re talking about new features added that make it a great phone assistant.

The Tech Giant is rolling out the chance to make calls and send messages without users unlocking screens through a new setting. The feature dubbed Outgoing Calls and Messages will require users to turn on messaging platforms and calling apps on Gemini so that it works.

Back in October, Google spoke about how busy it was launching the latest Gemini Extensions for messaging and calling. While it’s not up for grabs to all right now, the latest setting works without relying on Assistant. Those devices without options for making a command without unlocking might not be able to benefit until they unlock to continue.

But if you do enable the latest setting, you can make phone calls immediately without unlocking, the company adds.

For now, it’s yet to be launched publicly for all but the process for rollouts has begun. Therefore, we do expect to see it on the Google app as the latest update very soon.
