Google is getting its own AI mode inside the search feature that will reportedly work and look like the Gemini AI chatbot. The news comes from several different sources who shared screenshots related to the early testing phase of the feature.
This is found inside the Google App and also across different Android devices as shared in the news first published at this week’s start. As per a report from The Information, Google plans to provide billions of search enthusiasts with the chance to switch to this AI mode that’s very similar to Gemini.
In case you’re wondering what’s the difference, well, Gemini works independently of Google Search. It’s also not doing too great in terms of its performance when we see the popularity that comes from archrival ChatGPT. Hence, it’s a major move that could get more people on board and hence expand the audience the Gemini already has.
Recently, Android Authority was the first to spot the AI model search shortcut. It was a part of the APK teardown so that means the new AI Mode will give Google Searchers the chance to refine searches using follow-ups.
In the preview shared, the icon seen on the left-hand side features the magnifying glass with a star AI mode. There’s even a toggle switch to go from Search to Gemini but that’s more on the older side of things.
During the week’s start, we saw more about Google adding the capability of attaching files inside Google Search. Therefore, this would be a greater overlap between the domains of AI and Search, outside the actual AI Overviews.
Clearly, Google Search is changing in 2025, and many hope for the better.
