Google Maps Are Nearly Impossible To Use In The West Bank, Shocking New Investigation Reveals

A startling new investigation unraveled some shocking findings related to Google Maps.

The study by Wired highlighted how the world-famous navigation app has become nearly impossible to use in parts of the West Bank/Palestine, especially since the war began.

Speaking more about the publication, users informed Wired about how the popular navigation tool usually directs them towards walls but then fails to take into account some important time-consuming checkpoints.

Users also fail to get steered in the right direction and end up wasting time on restricted roads that can serve as serious dangers for drivers as they’re occupied by Israeli defense forces. The matter is very concerning for Palestinians who have been forced to live as captives in the place that they once called home.

Yes, many agreed that the large rise in checkpoints is part of the drawbacks of the war but the fact that the navigation tool cannot keep up is devastating for many. After being accused of choosing one side in the war, Google’s spokesperson released a statement on this front.

They shared how a major issue was people incorrectly assuming that Google is on the Israeli side but it says the company remains neutral in its stance. It cannot differentiate who is who as that depends on finding out the nationality of the user which it doesn’t have access to. Still, the Tech giant vowed to bring change and enhance its services in the West Bank region.

Dozens of workers keep telling Google heads to work on improving the service and by that, they mean making it easier for Palestinians to navigate. It’s a fundamental human right and no one should be denied that. This might be one reason why many travelers on the road have stopped using Google Maps as a whole.
