Domo's latest annual 'Internet Minute' report highlights data processing, time wasted online, and cybercrimes occurring every minute.
Every year, Domo releases its annual report with a wheel-graphic which goes through average stats per minute of the digital things happening on the internet, like how many people apply jobs on LinkedIn, and how many data breaches happened in 60 seconds. In the 2024 report, it seems like the stats are at their all time high as the internet has become a busy place with a lot happening every minute of the day. There's not one single free or chaotic-less minute on the web because users are always doing something that is making the stats increase.
In 2023, viewers watched content which was equivalent to watching content for 43 years in a minute. Now in 2024, viewers gave 3.5 million views to YouTube videos on average while an average of 138.9 million views per minute were given to Instagram/FB reels. The views per minute on Netflix dropped a bit from 452,000 hours per minute in 2021 to 362,962 in 2024. There was an increase in messages sent per minute on Snapchat from 2.4 million in 2022 to 3.3 million in 2024. There were 148,000 messages sent per minute on Slack in 2021 and now it has increased to 1.04 million messages being sent per minute.
16,000 videos per minute were uploaded on TikTok in 2024, while 4080 records were compromised per minute due to data breaches this year. Domo switches up the type of stats every year like in 2021, it reported that 856 webinars per minute were hosted by Zoom while in 2024, Domo reports that 288 people downloaded Zoom every minute. Artificial Intelligence was also in the spotlight this year as the report shows there were 8574 visitors per minute recorded on Google Gemini while Siri got 1.04 million questions every minute in 2024. Domo, in another recent report, also says that 185 gallons of water are used every minute to cool the supercomputers running ChatGPT. Another interesting fact Domo notes is the number of internet users being about 67.5% of the total world's population. Ten years ago, there were three billion internet users but now the number of internet users in 2024 are 5.52 billion.
