Apple’s Old iPhones Reign Supreme As World’s Best-Selling Smartphone in Q3 2024

As the year 2024 draws to a close, a new market intelligence report by Counterpoint Intelligence is shedding light on which smartphones made it big in the final quarter of the year.

The answer has to be the old iPhone models from 2023 that are reigning supreme as we speak. We’ve got to give Samsung some credit as two of its older variants took the 4th and 5th spots in the list.

The best-selling mobile phone in Q3 was Apple’s iPhone 15 base model. This took on 3% of the worldwide market share in the smartphone industry. The report says the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Pro variants took on the second and third position in this list.

The iPhone 14 model took the number 9 position on the list while Samsung Galaxy’s A05, A15 4G and 5G, and A05, A35 and S24 was also featured in the top ten list. So far, no shipment figures were provided as the data is paywalled. Does this mean Apple’s Pro Max did so well? The answer is yes!

The iPhone 15 Pro Max covered the space between the iPhone 15 seen in 2023 when people were in search of better camera features and display, not to mention the chance to trade in and get simpler finance options.

Counterpoint Report: Older iPhone Models Lead in Global Smartphone Sales for Q3 2024

As a whole, Apple did fall slightly due to Samsung’s generally better performance on all of its A series devices. This trend is common, with older models continuing to dominate sales despite the limited release of new devices. Furthermore, consumers in different markets like to reach a balance between pricing and features by offering the best price for models that arose in 2023.
