Apple Comes Out On Top Of Lawsuit Accusing It Of Illegal Deception Into Paying for iCloud Storage

Apple just defeated a major lawsuit that accused the iPhone maker of illegal deception.

As per the court filing, the accusations against Apple spoke about Apple forcing users to pay for iCloud storage against their will. They had to buy iCloud-related devices after misleading claims about limited storage requirements.

The plaintiffs spoke about the company rolling out alerts that the limit was only 5GB and that was quite less and easily exceeded quickly. So in the end, users are forced to make a purchase of expensive iCloud storage plans.

Such plans start at 50GB and cost nearly $1 each month. They can go up to $60 for 12TB each month.

In the decision upheld, the Ninth Circuit judges shared how the plaintiffs could not prove how it was impossible to reduce storage. It made it seem like this was a virtually impossible decision. They also couldn’t prove how no option remained but to buy the expensive storage plans which was misleading. The judges also shared how all users have the option to switch off the iCloud feature at any moment in time.

So far, the case was dismissed as the judges felt there was no reason for the Supreme Court to hear the case any further. In this situation, the lawsuit ends but Apple is not off the hook just yet.

More lawsuits related to iCloud storage remain in the pending stage across America and the United Kingdom. Complaints related to the 5GB tier continue to haunt the company.

The Cupertino firm first rolled out iCloud in 2011 and this service was up for grabs with 5GB options without any cost since then. When we see today’s standards, 5GB is still quite low and Apple not raising free limits is a major point of argument.
