The Hidden Link Between Bing and ChatGPT Search: What Every Website Owner Needs to Know!

We heard last week that OpenAI was rolling out Search across its ChatGPT endeavor. On that note, many couldn’t help but wonder if it was indeed going to rely on Microsoft Bing for assistance.

Now, we can finally confirm that the Search Index does come from one of its trusted allies, Microsoft Bing but we cannot rule out other partners who continue to supplement the feature.

As confirmed by media outlet The Verge recently, it does arrive with a mix of tech and Bing is certainly a major part of it. OpenAI's VP for engineering also confirmed the news, adding how a lot of services are included, other than Bing.

When you dig down deep, experts found that Bing does handle a major component of ChatGPT Search. After a little testing, they saw a quirk in the search feature. Despite having the firm’s own bots in place, Bing is playing a huge role here.

This does come with a few implications like Websites that don’t get indexed by Bing will not become a part of the OpenAI's ChatGPT search replies. Any page getting penalties from Bing for any reason will again not be displayed on ChatGPT Search. This can dramatically impact visibility. Shockingly, it works just as good on Google so that’s a point worth considering.

Hence, if you do have a website that you’d like to rank across ChatGPT Search then you need it to get indexed by Microsoft’s Bing first. It’s like a prerequisite, thanks to the strong bond that they both share.

Also, it doesn’t always mean the search replies will always be similar. They do have the same index of pages with documents but don’t mistake it for anything but that.
