Thanksgiving Weekend Sees Online Sales Rise 7% Globally and 4% in the US Compared to 2023

It’s Thanksgiving weekend and that means retailers are on the tip of their toes to try and earn as much revenue as they can for the festive season. And so far, things are going as planned.

Stats show how the holiday season is proving fruitful as global online sales rose 7% while those in the US rose 4% when compared to the same time during the previous year. The overall effect is producing $15.6B and 3.1B in terms of sales.

Last year, Thanksgiving was more sluggish in nature in regards to online shopping. Salesforce confirmed how the entire day brought in a whopping $31.7B around the globe while the US saw sales worth $7.5B. Each of those was up by only 1%.

The figures for 2024 were all dependent on data from shopping that belonged to 1.5B consumers. These stats come from Commerce Cloud, Service Cloud, and Marketing Cloud. Meanwhile, Adobe Analytics says people across America spent a staggering $5.6B which it calculates at a rise of 5.5% in 2023.

The economy is still not stable in various markets so retailers continue to make things sweeter so shoppers can leave happy with products at great prices. On average, discounts average 24% around the globe and 27% in America.

This festive holiday is an important day for shopping in America. Many physical stores are usually closed and many people share the occasion at home with loved ones. This obviously raises the demand for online sales that people can take advantage of through a simple click of a button on smartphones.

As per Salesforce predictions, the strongest period for making a purchase will be during the evening hours. People will feast and then take advantage of sales between the timings 7pm to midnight. It’s also said to be the largest holiday for mobile shopping of the week. A whopping 73% of all the sales made today will be through phones.

What is interesting is how Black Friday used to be limited to just the US before but now, it’s gone on to include the world. Let’s not forget how Thanksgiving arises at a time that kickstarts the festive shopping season. Some events known as Cyber Week also arise where again sales rise on gadgets that people deem major investments. It could include laptops, phones, and whatnot.
