Snapchat Empowers Parents with New Snap Map Location Tracking for Teens

Parents are finally getting some relief after Snapchat just announced it’s rolling out security features to Snap Map. This new offering provides parents with an option to request teens to share real-time locations on the platform.

Parents can even share locations to keep others aware of their whereabouts at any given point in time. It might be a great way to assist in reassuring parents about kids’ locations and giving the app more value in terms of staying connected. It also provides the best means for parents to be aware of their kids without getting intrusive.

It might feel overbearing to some, especially teens who don’t like to be controlled all the time and want their freedom. Similarly, it would provide parents with peace of mind when they know that their kids are at a safe location as they expand their movements.

It’s even worth mentioning that you may request the contact’s location through iOS or via Google Maps seen on Android devices. While we agree the feature is not innovative or new, it’s good to stay active within the platform. This is especially true as this app is popular with the youth.

It’ also worth a mention how users can get more visibility about their teenagers’ location sharing options and which ones are selected. This way, parents can keep tabs on who is getting access to their live location, in case any issue arises on this front.

This will help parents and family members remain vigilant and alert about where the teen is arriving and any additional reminders for users to review location sharing at regular periods of time.

In other news, the app is adding travel alerts that inform parents about when the teenager is leaving, where their destination is, and any location-sharing settings seen at frequent intervals of time. This helps in cases when you don’t want a former partner to track you or your movements.

This is another great addition to Snap’s Family Center Functions that put a display of options on the table and assist parents in keeping tabs on who the teen is connecting with through this platform.

As per previous studies, Snapchat is very popular among teenagers with up to 60% of the American teenage population using it frequently. Hence, such advancements make it all the more useful and a reliable partner. It also rids the app from its ‘secret messaging app’ reputation.

We do agree that this platform has come a long way in this regard. Features like these see parents relying on the app as a connective medium, especially when older kids are involved. As a parent, a greater sense of security will exist as compared to the past.

The company confirmed today that all of the latest features will be launching over the next few weeks so stay tuned.
