Meta’s PR team is working hard to put its Threads platform in the limelight with the release of more successful stats related to the app’s growth. It’s not coincidental that it comes at a time when Bluesky is witnessing peak success with increased signups.
Facebook’s parent firm wants the world to know that while Bluesky might be the talk of the town thanks to a sudden rise in subscriptions, Threads is seeing its own success. Other than rolling out some more new features for the app, Threads wants to publish the narrative that it’s still leading the hot platform race.
As confirmed by media outlet Axios, Meta now has a massive 35M user base on Threads as per this month’s stats. Signups have been on the rise for the past 14 days as compared to the month’s start.
All in all, many people continue to sign up on the platform’s accounts despite the perceived notion that Bluesky is the best. But we need to confirm that while both sign-ups and active users are released, it’s the latter that is the more accurate measurement for this context.
For instance, Threads just hit the 100M user sign-up mark last year. It broke massive records for the biggest sign-up growth rate recorded in the platform’s history. But it did take at least three months for the state to be achieved. So in this regard, it does not mean people are staying for long and using the platform on a routine basis.
Let’s not forget about the fact that Threads speaking about 35M signups in just one month does not signal a massive increase. The app hit the 275 MAU in October this year and it’s up 175M from what was reported for July 2024.
This means that Threads is adding people at a rate of nearly 30M each month which is much more important than 35M signups. So in reality, we’re not sure that these figures actually show how Threads is picking up the pace but it does display how people are still signing up on this app, despite Bluesky’s crazy hype and success right now.
Let’s not forget how Bluesky is nowhere near the figures of Threads’ active user base yet. It’s also nowhere near the figures of X who has 570M MAU as per stats from July. Still, it’s growing big time and Meta is certainly spooked out by the sudden success of Bluesky and how that could impact Threads’ growth.
