Meta Promises Long ‘Overdue’ Improvements For Its Threads App and Here’s What Users Can Expect

Tech giant Meta has just made a promise to its users on Threads, vowing to bring changes that many have longed for months.

The news comes as competition with rival apps X and Bluesky heats up. And it wouldn’t be wrong to claim that most of the changes are a mirror of those seen elsewhere.

This will entail precise search options and expanded trending topics. Below, we’ve listed everything you need to know.

For starters, users can now search posts from a certain date range or through single accounts. It’s quite like what was seen on X’s search. Meanwhile, Threads is even testing another trending page for its US audience that entails more topics for following. You can even expect summaries generated through AI to arise that compile everything that users talk about.

The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri mentioned through a recent blog post that the trial will begin today. It’s been a week that’s full of new updates on the app and also fears of competition from arch-rival Bluesky. The latter has witnessed many users flocking to the app in recent times.

During the week’s start, Threads launched a custom feeds option that gives users the chance to pin several curated feeds on its homepage. They can produce custom feeds for specific topics or any account and even add more flexibility that goes beyond the usual recommendations produced by the algorithm. And while the feature has been there on Bluesky for a while now, Meta did share how it wants its own version and would see it launch very soon.

Meanwhile, one of the most longed-for changes on the app is how the feed shows content that is irrelevant and annoying to many. So many users have complained about this and have even given Bluesky’s default feed as the perfect role model to take inspiration from. It’s customized to users’ likings and interests, showing them exactly what appeals to them.

Now, we can confirm thanks to Mosseri how Meta is working to tweak the algorithm and prioritize all posts from those you follow. That’s a serious change to how the app ranks content. Now the question is if the change would make the feed more updated because seeing outdated posts is not fun for anyone.

Some did go as far as to call the feed on Threads dead because of how late to the party it was in terms of sharing recent updates. Whatever the case may be, we’re happy Threads is stepping up its game and we don’t blame them. If Bluesky adding 20 million new users does not give them a reality check then we’re not quite sure what else will. Do you agree?
