The idea of Meta working alongside American governmental agencies is not a far-fetched thought. In fact, the company just confirmed that it’s collaborating with the government on a very interesting project.
We last heard from Meta’s CEO during his unveiling of the company’s earnings report for Q3 how keenly it was about collaborating with the public sector. It raised a lot of eyebrows and speculations about what was on the cards.
Meta began by detailing its latest Llama 3.2 release and how small models that ran on devices were all open-sourced and multi-modal in design. They also hope to work alongside different companies so it’s easier to use.
Now, the company’s head of Government Affairs did reveal the plan in detail. Nick Clegg says that Meta is working with government agencies on future apps for Llama AI models while also collaborating with big-name firms on the same issue.
Meta detailed how Llama is now open to a diverse community of users featuring research experts, developers, and those from government entities. Now, they want to work with the government to give rise to the best security and defense systems. This means partnering up with other leading private firms like Amazon Web, Deloitte, IBM, Microsoft, Booz Allen, Scale AI, Lockheed Martin, and Oracle amongst others.
This means generative AI that is commonly used to misguide the world about facts scraped from the web can now power elements of the country’s national security systems. Clearly, we didn’t imagine this right now.
At the moment, Meta confirmed how Scale AI is already fine-tuning its Llama to give support to certain national defense missions like operation plans and highlighting vulnerabilities linked to a certain adversary.
As a whole, Meta’s AI model is getting tested in certain apps where it’s used to make data analysis simple including interpretation.
LLMs can work towards streamlining complex logistics and plans. They can also track terrorist finances or make the country’s cyber defense system stronger. We already know how open source systems were in use in the past to give America one of the most advanced militaries around the globe.
We think it’s great that the US wants to be one step ahead of its enemies by using AI models. Who knows, it just might give them the added touch to better operations.
