Instagram Chief Confirms Threads Is Entering Its Phase Of Being An ‘Independent App’

At the start, confusing Instagram and Threads as one was the norm. Now, things are finally taking shape and Threads has entered a more independent phase. This means we might see it steer clear of Instagram completely.

Only time can tell when exactly that could happen but for now, Adam Mosseri has a lot to say about this matter. He confirmed that the audiences on both these platforms are very different as the platforms offer different services.

Many occasions have arisen where users want to follow one but not the other but they had no option but to do the same at once. Now, Mosseri just confirmed how Threads is entering its independent phase and could see it steer clear of Instagram as a whole.

Before, users would get recommendations from one or the other which meant that they were so closely tied. If you interacted with a certain account on Instagram, the recommendations would pop up on Instagram and vice versa. Some appreciated that while the majority didn’t.

Threads will still use Instagram’s graph for posting recommendations but while onboarding, those Instagram recommendations will not exist. It will take what’s known about the user from its post on Instagram to design a For You feed. This way, you’ll get recommendations from Instagram-based posts over there.

Some still feel that this is not how the app should work if they are separate entities. The goal on Meta’s end is to ensure numbers keep getting bigger and better as figures continue to rise. Therefore, no major change can occur but baby steps are definitely in place.
Today, close to 15 million people signed up for this platform in November alone. There are still two weeks left and if the rate continues like this, Threads just might break the records of X in terms of user count for quite some time.

While many might not have loved the approach that Threads took at the start, data clearly highlights how Threads is definitely on the right track to success. Refinement is still necessary but things are looking brighter than before.

One issue that it does face, time and time again, is resistance to share politics. It does recommend users’ likes and wants but the timeline does feel old sometimes. You don’t really feel like you’re on top of the world’s current affairs when on Threads and that stale feeling isn’t loved by many.
