Google Maps Makes New Life Improvement Changes On the App and Here’s What To Expect

Google Maps always seems to be on the lookout for innovation. And we think it just achieved that with the rollout of some exciting new life improvement changes.

For starters, the platform is making both Android and iOS users more aware of stairs with a callout feature that highlights them while getting the usual walking directions. This makes users aware and safe of when and where to expect stairs on their journey.

The feature will highlight stairs using a blue pin or icon that’s combined with dots. Before, the stairs indicator only popped up on maps and not in the directions overlay.

The change is certainly one that will be appreciated by the masses and also would provide users to plan journeys accordingly. This also stops users from using certain routes or provides a heads-up on when or where to expect them.

This just seems to be a great addition to what we witnessed last year when Google Maps rolled out a new wheelchair-accessible feature for walking routes. All users needed to do was click on the settings icon search for Trip Options and then Wheelchair Accessible. This would avoid stairs and provide options for elevators. The company also says it’s so useful for those carrying heavy luggage or babies with strollers. It’s also good for those with bicycles who obviously face hindrances when encountering stairs. The feature rolled out this month, Google confirmed.
In other news, Google Maps rolled out another leading update for reporting incidents. This time around, it will feature the exact location where police activity takes place instead of speed traps.

If you recall in July of this year, Google Maps rolled out a new incident reporting feature across mobile platforms. The latest feature will make it simpler to report any incident along the journey including construction sites, crashes, or lane closures for any reason.

One of the main options was linked to speed traps that gave users a means to keep others aware of hidden cops. This might not be great for all drivers as some might wish to report the presence of cops controlling traffic or those located in the center of a stop on the roadside.

Therefore, Google Maps has decided to silently update its reporting page to get rid of Speed Trap. This would now get replaced with another authentic Police Report. The option is also now higher on the list. Google might be showing it in another wording but as of last month, it’s still Speed Traps.

Users are yet to test if the feature’s update applies to Android Auto or the CarPlay app but from what we assume, it should. As a whole, Google Maps is on a roll and we can’t even begin to think how convenient it’s making people’s lives on the road.
