AI is taking over Google and the latest news we can confirm on this front is a new update for Google Maps that allows users to explore more.
The feature called Immersive View makes use of AI to assist users in exploring different places and searching for certain spots depending on their descriptive queries. For instance, how to have fun with friends after midnight.
The feature is equipped with Gemini AI that allows the model to think of inspiring collections that match every description. You might even get fun options featuring live music and entertainment, depending on the location. Any regular search replies will stay below such collections.
The interesting part is that it does not end there. Google is also letting users see AI-based summaries for the location depending on others’ reviews. This keeps everyone informed about a place and if it’s really somewhere that they’d like to go.
Furthermore, it will come with prompts that enable you to ask Maps for more details about the place. You can simply put in a query and Maps will make use of Gemini to give rise to more AI replies, depending on what comes from these reviews.
During another press briefing, the head of Google Maps showed how you can even ask if a place allows kids or if they are in a quiet internal setting. Those searching for cozy vibes can also benefit by asking the same. Thanks to Gemini, the replies will come in seconds.
Google says it’s launching the feature as early as this week for both iOS and Android phones in the US. This seems to be just another feather added to the AI cap so users’ experiences are fresh and real. Moreover, there are 100M updates taking place each year so it’s nice to have AI pull them out and submit them on the map, Google adds.
Google also shared how Immersive View will get a global expansion to include up to 150 cities. While this was launched in 2022 to give users the best Street View thanks to satellite imagery, new changes will include better navigation.
Users can see more details when they’re driving to a specific location. We are also hearing about changes on Google’s Waze app which will now have the feature of reporting incidents seen on the road using real voice.
