Google Is Launching ‘Screen Time Reminders’ On Android For Mindful Scrolling

Google wants to help Android users be more mindful of their scrolling on devices. This is why the tech giant is working on rolling out screen time reminders.

The tool is a part of the company’s Digital Wellbeing initiative and is designed to alert users when they’ve spent a lot of time on a single app. The feature will display a tiny pop-up alert at the screen’s top after the user goes overboard on an app.

There are already time limits on the app seen across Digital Wellbeing so what’s the difference here? Well, these reminders are subtle and not rigid. They appear time and time again, spontaneously. So it’s less like a restriction and more like a gentle tap so users can reflect on their scroll behavior.

Some users have already started to speak about how they would be spaced out at intervals on different platforms. Google shared how the alerts would arise occasionally and there’s no way to customize the frequency. After it springs into action, this feature would apply to all platforms through default settings.

Still, anyone who’s bugged by the reminder can switch it off for certain apps like video streaming or when you’re playing on a gaming app. If you’d like to disable it, you can simply click on the pop-up alert when it comes. The feature is switched off through default means and you can enable it by using it manually via the device’s settings for Digital Wellbeing.

The update is not exclusive in terms of Pixel devices. Google hopes to launch it across different Android phones soon. This includes those coming from Oppo, Nothing, and OnePlus. In case you’re not an avid Pixel user, you’ll still get the benefit of availing the feature for Android too.

Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy devices might be an exception to the rule as the brand’s Digital Wellbeing is yet to include any similar entity.
