Global Smartphone Market Witnesses Massive Growth In Q3 2024 With 307M Shipments And Highest Ever Revenue

The global smartphone shipments for Q3 of this year witnessed a massive boom with the rise in shipments and the highest-ever revenue reported for the third quarter.

Shipments comprised 307 million units which is a 2% rise from last year. This is the fourth time that the global smartphone market has grown consecutively with strong performance as displayed in the last few quarters.

The results come to us thanks to Counterpoint Research’s Global Market Monitoring Tracker. They also noted how the market enjoyed a very strong YoY growth over the last couple of quarters. This is mainly due to a rise in macroeconomic conditions as per consumer demand.

When looking at the performance of the regional market in this third quarter, we can confirm how the recovery slowed down as the industry started to attain a stable position. Shipments were greater in certain parts of the world while others did witness a decline.

Places like the EU, Southeast Asia, Japan, and Latin America where growth was greater than in the Middle East and Africa where economic recovery was slow. Conflicts in the latter part of the world really dampened business activity.

When looking at the world’s largest markets, shipments across the US were at a YoY low. Meanwhile, shipments seen in China also rose YoY during this time and economic demand and consumer demand kept getting better.

Shipments might be at a slower side in recent quarters but revenue continues to reach sky-high figures during this time. The leader of the industry was Apple where revenue hit 43% share, which is the greatest seen for Q3 ever in terms of shipments, revenues, and ASPs.

Apple was certainly a market leader with the launch of its iPhone 16 whose sales are slowly on the rise but not to the same extent as that witnessed with the previous iPhone 15 series. This might soon change after the arrival of Apple’s Intelligence systems.

Revenue figures for Samsung and its shipments saw a 2% decline thanks to lower demand in places like Latin America and India. Meanwhile, revenue for Xiaomi outpaced that observed with its shipments.

Samsung led the market in regards to shipments but Apple was the front-runner for another successful period in terms of revenue. Apple also recorded this as the most successful period for both shipments and revenue that it’s ever seen for a third quarter. Next came Xiaomi and Oppo.

Despite regional disparities, smartphone shipments grew, with Apple outperforming Samsung in revenue for Q3.

Apple dominated Q3 smartphone revenue with a 43% market share, fueled by the iPhone 16 launch.
