X and Meta were recently under fire for using public posts of users for training their Generative AI models. However, arch-rival Bluesky is promising the world that it has no plans of following suit.
The company which has recently seen a surge in sign-ups confirmed that no AI systems will be trained using public posts. It’s a positive surprise to see a tech giant vowing to take on a separate route from the usual norm.
Speaking to users on Friday, the company added that it does not use any of the content for training and also has no intentions of doing that in the future. They also called out the highly debatable business practice as controversial.
What is interesting is how Bluesky made this statement on the day when X enforced a new law of using posts from the user feed for training purposes. This did not come as a surprise as Elon Musk already made that clear a year ago. This was not taken too well by many people including the artist community who thought their exit from the app was inevitable.
The main issue right now is how the future for AI from X will end up copying user content without any worry of repercussions. They also have no care about consent or compensation for creators who own the material.
Threads which comes under the ownership of Meta is also doing the same. It uses online posts that are available publicly for training AI programs. This behavior is what had a lot of users shift from X and Threads to Bluesky, asking if they were going to do the same.
After hearing about its differences in strategies and opinions, the company’s users are flourishing and signups are at a high. This is why they’re reassuring more people to come forward and use the platform without fear of AI systems stealing their material for training purposes. It’s a smart move we believe.
It’s a call that would definitely enhance its app appeal and ensure more members of the media and artist community go home happy and relieved that their years of hard work and effort are not in the hands of thieves trying to profit off of it without any compensation.
X is continuing with its controversies after Musk supported Donald Trump won the elections. Today, the billionaire is considered as family to the Republican clan. In July, the app hit 251M users while Threads crossed 275M MAU.
