Bluesky Celebrates Major Milestone As App Usage Surges 500% in the US and Over 350% In the UK

Twitter spin-off platform Bluesky is witnessing its glorious moment after the app skyrocketed to record-breaking usage levels.

Since the US Elections day, the company has seen its greatest growth since it was launched at the start. It’s amazing because it was an invite-only initiative at the start that entered its test period. Many were skeptical about its performance, not to mention competition from Elon Musk’s X app and Meta’s Threads.

Now, experts are weighing in on the platform’s performance and it’s doing a very decent job. This might have to do with the fact that more people are keen on leaving X or perhaps investing time in a platform that provides them with more promising features.

One of the platform’s board members shared through a new post how the uprising in new users is turning out to be different than what was ever seen in its past. He broke down the figures and we’ve summarized it for your understanding below.

For starters, the usage and page traffic saw a massive spike in America which slowly turned out to be the destination of choice for many linked to the press. The same was the case for those having strong opinions and anyone deciding to stop using X or perhaps use it less.

After the election, usage has significantly increased in the US and UK alone. We agree the audience is nothing compared to the scale seen for Threads and X but it’s definitely a mighty number. If it continues to pick up the pace at this rate, experts don’t see why it can’t edge out Threads.

When compared to X, the figures showed how the daily active user count on X was nearly 10 times greater than that seen on Bluesky. It was observed that Threads had close to 5 times more DAU before the election but after the arrival of Bluesky, the gap was narrowed by a considerable amount.

Looking at Android estimates, the figures for Bluesky usage since the elections are greater than 360% from where it stood in the first half of 2024. Look at the US and UK markets, the growth is massive and most of that is linked to a long list of users deactivating their X accounts. Some feel the policies of Musk on X do not sit down well with them while others spoke about how the algorithm is not something they see fit right.

When we look at usage patterns around the globe, there’s a giant rise in Brazilian users which has to do with the temporary ban on X. Many turned to Bluesky as their next best alternative.

Global trends showed how Bluesky failed to surpass the figures of usage seen on Threads but it did come close near the US Elections 2024 period. For now, it’s a strong trend and can be considered a major milestone for the platform.

It’s celebrating its continuous cycle of increased usage and more coverage from the press which again helps in user sign-ups.
