Ray Dalio analyzed the world’s biggest economies and ranked the world's happiest countries among them. The analysis was published in Great Powers Index 2024 and was based on some metrics. Those metrics were suicide rate (per 100,000) people, reported life satisfaction (1-10), share of population reported happy, share of population having good social support network and share of population reported daily enjoyment.
According to the rankings, the UK was the happiest country in 2024. Even though in the World’s Happiness Report, the UK is the 20th happiest country in the world, this ranking places it at the top. The rate of happiness is high in older generations. Followed by the UK is Indonesia with 79% Indonesians saying that they are happy. It has a global happiness average of 73%.
The Netherlands is the third happiest country and Mexico is the fourth happiest country. The USA is the tenth happiest country in the world in 2024, according to the calculations by Ray Dalio. The happiness levels among youngsters have been declining in the US over the last two decades and it shows that a good economy doesn’t equal happiness.
On the other hand, India and South Korea ranked last among the world’s biggest economies in terms of happiness. India’s happiness level is declining probably because of inequality and distrust in institutions. 74% of the population of South Korea is also dissatisfied with the country's social and political climate.
