If you were fed up with the limited time duration of YouTube Shorts content, you might want to read on further.
The company has confirmed that creators will soon get the chance to extend the duration of Shorts videos to up to three minutes. It seems like it’s giving TikTok a run for its money after it launched longer-length videos before.
YouTube says the new change will come into play starting the 15th of this month where users can upload Shorts content that’s longer. And in case you didn't know, this was a feature that was highly requested in the past by many fans.
Social media giant TikTok is currently working with videos that go up to the 10-minute mark and this has steadily increased with time.
In other news, the popular video streaming app is now rolling out a new template feature that gives creators the chance the reuse older Shorts formats. This gives creators the chance to link clips with trending sound effects that were taken from other video content. It’s quite similar to how TikTok works. In the latter option, users get the chance to select from a range of present video formats and go on editing them as they like.
The template feature just makes things so much quicker and simpler to jump on the latest trends bandwagon. You can even clone another user’s editing selection through this method. At the same time, it leads to much content that appears and feels the same way.
If you go down memory hill, Instagram Reels also launched something similar in the form of a template feature. This gives creators a massive array of editing choices through a few simple clicks. The template option for now is accessible through a new remix button with videos.
We’ve seen the popular app pushing forward for Shorts as the best alternative to TikTok. They’ve been copying a host of their features and also giving creators more incentives for monetization, just to drag them to the app and make Shorts content.
The app also realizes that some users wish for less content that is TikTok-themed. There is a similar demand for long-form content and YouTube knows that because it’s been the trendsetter for that. Before we end, the company also launched another interesting feature. This is called ‘show fewer Shorts’. The goal is to give some users a limited number of short content inside the user’s home feed.
