YouTube Expands AI Video Summaries Globally But Creators Are Not Happy

Video streaming giant YouTube just expanded video summaries around the globe but not everyone is appreciating the change.

What may have begun as a test at the start is now popping up across all YouTube content, whether you choose to opt in or not. This is not a feature that many users and creators appreciate.

The test was first rolled out to a selected English audience but now the platform confirmed that a wider expansion is taking place so more people can benefit. The summaries make use of Generative AI to roll out a basic video summary on the app. This allows users to know what to expect from the content they’re about to view.

The drawback is that it might drastically impact viewership for creators because if it features anything that a viewer is not interested in or not looking for, they won’t click or view the content. Imagine being a video creator and now having to worry about something like this.

YouTube tried to justify the feature by claiming this would not affect the creator’s ability to write or make edits to their own content descriptions. It is a useful tool to help viewers navigate to the right video and find relevant material quickly and efficiently.

In other news, YouTube also provided updates on new tools that can benefit creators. This includes the Studio Mobile which uses content management systems that help creators stay organized.

The revamped version will now organize the content into certain formats such as shelves, live streams, playlists, and videos. To be more specific, certain changes worth mentioning include alterations in content format views, simple ways to see monetization status, and even schedule content filters that pop up when necessary.

YouTube also made updates to community engagement tools. The old comments tab is now called Community and will include detailed audience metrics and moderation capabilities. There will be great additions such as a spotlight that highlights engaged viewers and generates reply suggestions using AI. it’s just in the testing phase for now but could soon be included as an expansion for all, YouTube adds.

YouTube is further experimenting with a new AI chatbot that helps provide support to creators through its Studio desktop. You click on the icon near the search and use assistance but again, it’s limited to just a few creators for testing.

For now, there is no confirmation from YouTube in terms of when we can expect the rollout of the features. But hopefully, with time, it will happen gradually in the next few weeks.
