Appfigures compiled the data that shows the most downloaded and highest-earning apps in the world in September 2024. There is a contrasting difference between most downloaded apps and highest earning apps. According to the estimates, Meta's Threads was the most downloaded app on Apple App Store, while Instagram was the most downloaded app on Google Play Store. Overall, Instagram was the most downloaded app on both these platforms in September 2024 with 54 million total downloads.
TikTok was the second most downloaded app on the App Store as well as Play Store. Combined, TikTok got 45 million downloads in the world in September 2024. TikTok saw a 4 million decline in its downloads. Facebook and WhatsApp were consistent in their third and fourth positions as the most downloaded apps in September 2024.
On Google Play Store, Telegram and Threads also moved up from their positions. ChatGPT was also successful in securing its spot in top ten on both platforms in September 2024. September saw a decline in new app downloads overall, with a total 334 million non-game downloads which is a 5% decrease from August 2024.
Now talking about the apps that grossed the highest revenue in September 2024, TikTok earned $225 million revenue on Google Play Store and Apple App Store combined. It had the highest revenue on the App Store while its revenue declined to the third highest on the Play Store. YouTube earned most of its revenue($166 million) from the App Store, which is a $9 million increase from last month, making its revenue the second highest.
Disney+, Tinder and Max maintained their spots with third, fourth and fifth highest revenue. Peacock climbed to sixth position with $48 million revenue.
