Microsoft just announced a further expansion of its privacy protection initiative, Defender for all users.
The software giant first rolled it out in 2023 and now, we’re seeing it get another major upgrade in the form of more enhanced privacy features. During this year’s start, the software giant spoke about the launch of the features across the UK and even made way for them on iOS devices and Android phones. Now, we’re seeing another major upgrade for users in terms of better privacy and protection.
The software will now detect and alert users when they come across unsecured Wi-FI connections throughout Android, Windows, and iOS devices. The rollout will be launched on macOS soon too.
Whenever the devices attain hotspot access having poor security encryption, an alert will be sent to the user. This will make them disconnect through a simple click. At the same time, the software giant is making way to enable VPNs automatically through public Wi-Fi networks soon.
For now, the latest VPN privacy feature for Microsoft Defender is present on Windows, Android, iOS, and macOS devices. The countries that have access to it include Canada, the UK, the US, and Germany. But more nations in Europe, Asia, and Latin America will be getting it short, the company adds.
When the feature is enabled by the user, their internet traffic gets encrypted and the IP address is hidden. For now, the company is offering a monthly data limit of 50GB for every user’s safe browsing capabilities.
Moreover, Microsoft says it will ensure famous streaming pages aren’t a part of the VPN connection including popular texting apps WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. Similarly, TikTok, Amazon Prime, YouTube, and Netflix will be excluded. Other than that, music sites like Spotify and YouTube Music are also on the exclusion list.
To get the app, simply install it from a reliable source like Google Play, App Store, or the Microsoft Store. To make the most of the features, you just need to sign in through your personal accounts and link them to your Microsoft 365 Personal One.
We can see how this new feature is certainly a continuation of Microsoft’s goals of giving users the best and safest private browsing service. What do you think?
