Meta Pushes For More Innovation On Facebook To Encourage Young Adults To Use The App

Facebook’s parent firm is working hard to boost the usage and engagement of Facebook amongst young adults.

We’ve heard the tech giant’s CEO mention in the past how the young adult user base is crucial for Facebook’s success. This might be the many reasons why the company is rolling out new changes to the age-old social platform.

Previous studies proved how people are spending less time and engaging less with Facebook. Both of these factors are pivotal for the app’s success.

The recently announced updates can be seen inside a new ‘local’ section. This will display more information that’s relevant to the local community. Similarly, it can provide more emphasis on new events and communities for Messenger.

This change will assist younger adults with exploring bigger interests and connections with the world. In the past, users were just restricted to close friends. We would also like to mention that promoting events isn’t a new tactic for the app. It launched something similar in 2016 before rebranding it as local happenings and then was deleted altogether in 2021.

This time, things are different. You can find Marketplace listings inside the local section, alongside Reels, Facebook posts from groups, and more community events. Interestingly, you won’t be seeing local news as it’s removed by Meta.

Other than the local tab, it seems like Facebook is promoting events elsewhere on the app. It will soon provide personalized recommendations like weekend digest. This will be seen as in-app alerts. Meanwhile, invitations are another area that’s undergoing a revamp on the app.

Users will get the chance to send invitations to contacts on Instagram and even through emails and text messages. Meta has also shared changes for Groups on the Facebook app. It’s one of the most used features by youngsters.

We can see Meta experimenting more with this Group AI that can be customized. This gives admins the chance to make bots that carry out chats and answer questions depending on a post. Users can even benefit from a new Explore section that’s quite like Instagram. Meanwhile, a new dedicated area for reels is also going to pop up soon on Facebook.

More changes on Messenger will include the latest Communities feature that was seen previously on WhatsApp. This is where groups can keep chats more organized and start interacting like it’s a Facebook Group. So all members in the community can make chats based on a certain topic while benefiting from moderation and different admin tools.

All these changes are now part of a bigger effort by the company to bring the youth together and interact more through Facebook. Every feature is customized depending on how members use social media. As Meta says, Facebook is for everyone. From what can be seen right now, young adults are more on Meta’s mind.

The question is whether or not the efforts will prove to be more successful or not. For that, only time can tell as there are already 40M young adult users on the app.
