Google Maps just reached a new milestone that was shared by the company’s CEO Sundar Pichai.
He says the product is the latest offering by Google that crossed the 2 billion user mark recently. When you look at reports from May of this year, Google only had six offerings that had the honor of 2 billion-plus monthly users. Now, Google Maps has been added to the list, making it seven. It joins Gmail, Play Store, YouTube, Search, Android, and Chrome.
Google also shared how all the platforms are currently using its Gemini models and the tech giant has major plans for the future, where changes can come as early as next year.
The CEO similarly shared how Google is working to better its current apps and hopes to offer new features for the models in question. At the same time, Google’s DeepMind division just got access to the firm’s Gemini app team. This will help speed up the process of launching and adding new models as well as other kinds of training based activities.
Today, a quarter of all new code is produced by AI, Google adds and these keep getting reviewed by the company’s engineers for performance. More discussion was done on how API calls for Gemini grew 14 times in just six months.
Google also shared how its circle to search feature is present across 150 million Android phones and many are using it enthusiastically. This is very useful when shopping, texting, studying, and translating. Many called it very helpful and use it as a part of their daily routine, with youngsters targeted the most.
Google Lens now has a remarkable 20 billion visual search record and users continue to use it enthusiastically each month. This makes it one of the fastest-growing models in the world of Search. It can answer to complex queries and assist in discovering products and also during activities like shopping.
This is the first time ever that we’ve seen the app combine ad and revenue for subscriptions together in the past four quarters. It managed to surpass the $50B mark. So as you can tell, Google has a lot to be proud of and with dominance in AI, the future seems brighter than ever.
