It would not be wrong to mention that the competition in today’s email continues to grow.
The news comes after iPhone maker Apple rolled out a host of new features to its iOS 18 Mail app. This includes better ways to categorize transactions, organize updates, and neatly allocate promotions.
Now, Google seems to be working on the same front, rolling out new enhancements for its Gmail so users stay more organized. The announcement was made yesterday where the Android maker confirmed that revamped features like summary cards were on their way to make users more organized and ensure timely action inside inboxes. This includes tracking parcels, flight check-ins, putting reminders, and marking any payments that were paid.
The tech giant also spoke about how summary cards will better organize data from all over the mailbox and would pop up against various tab categories like leisure, travel, events, and purchases. Additionally, users will no longer need to go through painstaking efforts to find data they need such as bills, reservations, or any receipts for payments.
As per Google, the changes are supposed to reflect changing trends but from what we can see right now, the sudden action seems to be all thanks to Apple’s own mail update on iOS 18.
As this new offering rolls out to users, the latest summary card feature will pop up across the message heading so it provides easy and instant access to data needed to be seen at first glance. For instance, it’s quite like what happens when packages arrive or when flights are scheduled for landing. The same is true when a bill must be paid or confirmation for concert ticket bookings. The list is endless.
Google mentioned how the bottom part of these summary cards will feature blue buttons when more action needs to be taken such as tracking a parcel or getting directions to the next location.
You can think of this latest launch as one that builds upon the company’s summary cards that are already in existence. We’ve seen snippets of these before but the latest variant will also be more dynamic and provide real-time updates with the latest data.
Google is also rolling out new instructions that we did not see in the past like flight check-ins or invites for events. Other than that, the search engine giant is working on another feature called Happening Soon. This latest section on inboxes can organize summary cards on a timely basis to get easier access.
The cards will soon feature across the search done on Gmail to get quicker access. Happening Soon will also include a separate section for emails linked to purchases, bills, programs, and travel for individual emails.
It’s a lot to comprehend for now but once things start rolling out, we feel it will make more sense and ensure your Gmail remains organized at all times.
