AI Job Growth Accelerates: Top Industries Seeking Skilled Professionals

With the rise in generative AI and its adoption in jobs, many people have started looking for careers that require AI skills. In January 2024, the search for “open AI jobs” reached 2.9 million searches in the United States. It was a 22% increase from January 2023. Analysis by Google Trends revealed that searches for “AI jobs” kept on increasing every month of this year and they reached their peak in October 2024, both in US and worldwide.

There are several factors why a lot of people are pursuing AI jobs. The number one reason is widespread AI in different industries and now has many in-demand jobs. Many people are also fearing that AI will take away their job so they are looking for jobs that require AI skills. As AI is in high demand, its jobs also offer high pays.

AIPRM conducted an analysis in August 2024 to find out which sectors in the USA are actively posting AI jobs. For the survey 120,000 LinkedIn jobs were examined and then the top ten industries with AI jobs were ranked.

The top industry hiring for AI jobs is Information and Communication, followed by Professional, scientific and technical Industries which isn't surprising at all. Other industries who are looking for individuals with AI skills are Arts, entertainment and recreation, Financial and insurance activities, Manufacturing and Electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply. Public administration and defense, Agriculture, fishing and forestry were also ranked the top ten industries with AI jobs. Education and other service activities were also the top ten industries posting for AI jobs.

Preparing for the Future: The Importance of AI Skills in Today’s Job Market

Within these industries, there were some popular jobs that were demanding AI professionals in 2024. Most of the jobs were from Information and Communication, Professional and Technical and Entertainment industry. Data Scientist was the top AI job in 2024, followed by AI Researcher and Machine Learning Engineer. Data Researcher and Algorithm Developer were also top AI jobs. There were also jobs that were seeking AI artists/designers and VR/AR developers.
