YouTube Tests New Feature That Removes Age Restrictions On Videos And Helps Restore Content Impacted By Community Guideline Violations

Video-sharing giant YouTube is currently in the experimental phase with a new feature for creators.

The platform will soon be offering creators the chance to edit videos so age restrictions are removed. At the same time, it would restore videos that received Community Guideline violations.

The company says getting age restriction labels or restoring banned content was not so simple. It required an appeal process where users would need to wait for results. Moreover, the creator only had the chance to make an appeal once. No other option was provided before but to accept the result and make an appeal.

Now, things are getting simpler in terms of reinstating and removing content. All you need to do is go to the support page and click on the option to edit content through the app’s Studio.

After the creator makes an edit on a video, the team reviews changes and gets rid of all age restrictions, including violation strikes. Meanwhile, the firm also spoke about how creators get the chance to select whether or not they want to appeal, instead of making an edit. So as you can see, the previous appeal decision remains.

YouTube spoke about how creators can get the chance to access all advanced features including edits if they have premium subscriptions.

As you can imagine, the feature is great for those who overlook something when making edits and also those who make edits without altering narrations or styles. Moreover, it’s just as useful for those who don’t know if the app made changes to policies or not.

Those who do feel that they’re constantly being targeted and creativity is going out the window can still make an appeal to see where they are going wrong. Remember, a little extra insight never hurt anybody.

YouTube says the decision to launch such features comes at a time when many creators have constantly expressed their dismay over its striking system and violations made through the Community Guidelines. This is why the app rolled out a new program that enables creators to take training and wipe out strikes. However, they need to be careful to not break the rule again within 90 days from the start of training.

The app is launching more AI tools to help with making videos. However, experts do feel more policies must be developed regarding AI use in the content. At the start of 2024, the app began tightening content rules that displayed kids taking part in crimes.

Meanwhile, creators might be using AI tools belonging to third parties to produce or edit content. Now AI has the tendency to make errors during editing and can even overlook material that breaks the app’s rules. Hence, this new test might just be what creators need to ensure their content gets freedom.
